It's a sad day when the vulcanite of your Leica begins to chip off. However, it is an opprotunity to refresh and resurrect the camera with a new covering. I'm thinking that Cameraleather.com is a good source. Pink is out, but I'm open for suggestions!

Frank, there's a black leather covering (I think it's kid's) that I'm tempted to have done in one of my cameras. It looks smooth and matte enough. The only concern I have sometimes is about "slipperiness." How slippery can leather get, say, on a warm, humid day?

Ostrich comes to mind too... but it's a bit too flashy for my taste.

Black leather, definitely, Frank. It's classy, perennial and discrete.

But that's a nice problem to have, isn't it? I mean, that you have a Leica in the first place.

I vote for basic black. Always right. Slimming. With slender straps, very ... um ... you know.

Mike: :)

Absolutely, yes! A nice problem to have. I'm not complaining. I know my glass is half full, not half empty.

 I am not a mechanical person, so I sent a Leica IIIc to CameraLeather for them to replace the covering on it. I chose the least expenxive black covering and am impressed by both the quality of the material and the feel. Except for some minor marks on the top, it looks like a new camera. I highly recommend their service and their products. Suggestion, how daring do you want to be? I thought long and hard and the idea of reselling weighed heavy on my decision. If I didn't think about reselling, I would choose one of the more colorful materials just to be different.

I'd just order a covering kit for my M4 from Aki Asahi, expecting to have it in my mailbox next week. From the site, installing to the body looks quite easy and the price is right too!

Cheers,
Pop

I've been toying about getting my M2 done in Hermes Tan. Cameraleather needs to special order it. If you want to do your the same let me know and maybe we can get a better price if he gets 2 cameras the same.

I bought from both cameraleather and aki-asahi. IMO the cut of the covers from Aki are slightly closer and better fitting. And Aki's prices are better. He'll ship very quickly from Japan. If I were to buy a new cover it'd be from Aki.

You did see my "new" Japanesque Gold cover, didn't you, Frank? :)

I finally quit procrastinating and took this shot. This is the IIIc I mentioned earlier that CameraLeather recovered. It was inexpensive and I think brings the old girl back in fashion.
