I just orderd one of Luigi's half cases and Deluxe straps for my M3. I absolutely adore the look and extra protection will be needed so I don't damage my 50 year old wonder of the world. Here is my question for those of you who are using half cases.

How are you changing film? Do you have to take the straps off everytime you need to change film? Or have you found a work around?

You can pull the case off and leave the straps on. You'll see when you get it. Those are great cases.

Roland.

No, the half case snaps itself on around the strap so you just have to take the case off. Straps stay on the camera.

And my goodness, you are in for a surprise. The Luigi is better than you expect it will be, really.

Like Roland said. The half cases are nice. It's an entirely different feeling from shooting with a "naked" camera. Sometimes I prefer one over the other.

🙂

normally i am not cheap, somehow i just can't justify a $200 camera case. maybe it is as perfect as advertised. i am petty happy not to accessortze m. well, i will keep them forever, so a little bit old look is ok, at least it is how i rationalize. - cheers,

I have Luigi's deluxe strap 12mm and just ordered a second one ... my halfcase is from Artisan & Artist (cheaper), which can be removed easily while the strap stays attached.

i sold my luigi cases. i liked the smell and grippiness of them, but i found i preferred shooting with my camera au natural wearing only a wrist strap. I like the tiny strap by luigi or one of gordy's strap. I find the wrsit strap to give more freedom for changing the shot angle around quickly. To give the camera the grippiness, I replaced the old hardened vulcanite with a leather and that gives all the grippiness I could want.

--2 cents cdn.

i like the half case for winter shooting. it gets very cold here and when shooting i prefer thinner gloves so the case keeps my hands from the cold camera. i don't use it in the summer.
i also have a couple of luigi's straps and they are so simple and perfect.
i also asked luigi for a bit longer neck strap so it could go over/around my large belly and still have room to lift and look through the finder comfortably.
it's hard to find fault with his stuff.

I have one on each of my cameras.

They offer a combination of protection and grip - just one extra step in film loading (undo two snaps and pull the case off).

Ditto. (Taking nothing from the Luigi cases -- they're great.) I just decided that I didn't like the add thickness.

And Luigi is a pleasure to do business with.

I like the feeling of a "naked" camera. Leica M just feels great as it is. But I do use a Luigi halfcase. First of all it offers some protection, and secondly and maybe more importantly it offers a better grip even if it doesnt have that built in grip. A lot easier to carry around.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago! 😀

I thougt the case just had cutouts for the lugs but they're straps which snap on in the back. Case comes off, straps stay on.
Here's how it looks from the back.

now I see! Thanks for the image. That is better than I thought. I normally carry my M6ttl, which has one of Luigi's straps already, with my M3. They do eventually knock against each other and I don't need to add scrathces or dents to the bodies carelessly!

Thank you all for the feedback.

Twenty years before Luigi, I used the bottom halves of Leica ER cases. In more recent years, though, I've decided I prefer the more compact size of the camera without a case. YMMV...
