Looks like the R is history. Not too surprising.

Leica ceases R-series production
Thursday, 5 March 2009 16:20 GMT
Leica has announced it is discontinuing its R-Series manual focus SLR. In a letter sent to dealers, the company said the R9 and R-series lenses would no longer be produced. The camera, which was compatible with Leica's DMR digital back, still featured on the company's stand at PMA in Las Vegas, despite the move. The company said that insights gained during the development of the S2 (its first autofocus camera), will feed into the development of a future generation of the R-system.

I wonder how many here ever shot an R? I've only known two people who shot Leica SLR, one had Leicaflex and the other R6's.

I've owned and shot R4, R5, R8, and a Leicaflex. I sold them all for financial reasons. I wish I had kept the R5. I'm hoping to be able to get a Leicaflex or the R6.2 in the future.

Like I bother to read threads that have a German title. English is the only language that matters.
That's why we have other people around, to know things that we don't know, and to tell us about things we haven't bothered to read. :p

You are way too polite. I can't stand that. :bang:

Be mean like everyone else!

net is full of those forums that can provide this. I wish we could stay in subject.

I understand Leica's decision to drop R-system, but kind of sad one long lasting system to disappear.

I had an R3 Safari outfit for a while, but someone around 1980 wanted it far more than I could resist! I have a Leicaflex SL, and bought an R4, but had so much trouble with it I finally sold it.

Not long

. English is the only language that matters.

Not any longer if words like Leitmotiv, Abseiling, Dreck, Schmalz etc. continue to be used in the states. :p
But also for People who speak German "Abkuendigung" was a rather strange word.;)

Mighty king Madoc have mercy with us who dare to speak the language of the traumatized tough Teutons

I wonder if the S 2 will be actually see the light of day...

Hmm, the name English originates from the Angles, a Germanic tribe which originated from the north of Germany and moved into what has become England (land of the Angles). Then in 1066, they got themselves invaded by the Normans, which had settled in France for a wee while and spoke French. So what do we have here? A German dialect which got muddled up with French. :D:p:D:p:D;)

In the interest of the good discussion culture on RFF, I will try to keep this in mind and be less polite in the future. :D
