For a copycat this is quite original and interesting.

It's a test sample, so the black paint is a bit rough. We are testing the opticals and build quality.

Why? Because you have original already, could afford Leica remake?
I and many if not most cannot afford it. And many, if not most of us, don't need fancy and new looking.
We need proven optic formula lens with normal build and compact size under low price.
I'm not into trying something new, just because it is new.
If it is affordable remake of something which is overpriced, bring it on. I'll use it for real rf photography then. Take it out under rain, dust, freeze or heat.

A replica of something that is no longer made, expensive or rare is in no way dishonorable as long as it's for use rather than for pretending to own something it's not. That's not to say I don't welcome more newly designed lenses.

Also it's a bit rude to simply assume a "mentality" from one project presented here.

I would definitely be interested in third party recreations of Leica lenses of yore (assuming of course that all intellectual property laws are stringently followed). Cool stuff.

I like this idea. It's almost like the camera equivalent of a Ford Gt40 replica. There just aren't that many of the real article around and if the quality of the replica is good, should satisfy a lot of people.

at the moment, the factory is still not able to mass produce this lens. The assembling process is really challenging.
As for the price, it will be less then 500 USD.

me myself found this project interesting already.
not that I need it cause I got 2 authentic Leica 35mm lenses already
but the efforts that one try to remake or make new (7artisan eg) products at reasonable price are amazing, really.

The 7A 35 f2 is $260. Voigtlander 35 f2.5 is $409.

The eight element remake will not share same target customers with 7A, but the maker of this lens wanna the price to be 1/6 of the original ones.
