Leica X1 AA-filter removal

Hi!

I really increasingly like the little X1. Stellar lens, performance handling, and size. One thing bothers me a bit, and that is the AA-filter - I miss the crispeness of the M8 and DP2 files at times.
I wonder - does anyone know if the AA-filter on the X1 can be removed? So far I have found no reports about that being done.

I know the filter on the X1 is thin and all that, still curious.

Fixed lens camera, so you'd probably have to dissemble most of the body and components to get to the sensor. You know, the x-pro1/xe-1 have no AA filter and are a similar size, + have the advantage of a built in VF....

Indeed, I have been looking at the XE-1, and do consider it. I just like the size of the X1. The X-Pro 1 is too large.

Fair enough - when the pancake lens drops later this year the xe-1 + pancake would be a very similar setup lens and size wise to the x1...

The X1, with the lens retracted is smaller than the X100 (in height) by a good deal. The X1 feels like a lighter barnack and the X100 feels more like a CL.

For sure. Still not a big difference though, and the lens still has to extend sometime!

My advice, stop screwing around trying to make the X1 something it is not. Use it and learn it. The only thing the X1 needs is a competent photographer and it takes time to learn and master any camera in every situation possible. I might have accomplished that somewhat with the Nikon SLRs since the 70s and I may accomplish that with the M3 if I live another 20 years.

I figure I will be consistently competent with the X1 a bit sooner (10 years?) as the feedback and ease of experimentation with a digital camera makes the learning curve shorter.

Now, if you must alter the camera, let us know how it turns out. :angel: In the meantime, use the camera you love...if it is something else, use it instead.
