Hey everybody -

As I mentioned in my introductory post, I've started a new website for Leica CL reviews, guides, and documentation, and I'd love to hear your advice, what you'd like to see, etc.

The site is LeicaCL.com.

It's obviously a work in progress, and I'm still scanning old documents for the vintage documentation page.

Any thoughts? Also, if you know of a review or something that isn't on the site that should be.

It says "there was also a 28mm.. option". No there wasn't, that's CLE. There was a 40mm f2.8 option (at the very beginning?) however. If you want, I can scan you the manual and advertisement in swedish. Adjusting rangefinder and the meter is extremely easy as is taking the top plate off to clean the optics, so you should have some actual repair advice in that section.

I seem to have the warranty certificates (They have 3 languages, english, german and french) too . Serial number database would be nice as there were some slight updates to the camera (unlike some claim). Crome vs. black strap lugs and winding lever plastic being the most notable.

Excellent, thank you.

If you feel the Swedish ones would be a good addition, I'd love to put them up. I'll even add your name to the scans for credit.

Do you know of any online guides for cleaning the optics/adjusting rangefinder?

I have not yet seen a warranty certificate. Shoot me an email at me@sagenaumann.com. As for a serial # database, I had considered that, but do we have much data on the Minolta CL numbers? It seems like most info has been on the Leica CL.

I'd love to get one of those CLE 28s but unfortunately many are afflicted by spots of some sort inside the lens - white spots on the glass. I have the Minolta 40 and 90mm lenses and they are terrific.

As to the CL - might want to mention that it has 50mm framelines for use when a 50 is mounted (unless its there on the site and I accidently missed it). I often use mine with a Konica M-Hexanon 50mm or with Nikkor, Canon or Jupiter screw-mount lenses (with adapter).

That isn't mentioned! I'll have to add it.

In the meantime, can you suggest an adapter and affordable lens for me? I'd appreciate it.

Here's the adapter I bought: Alternatively, there are original Leica adapters as well as adapters by Voigtlander and Rayqual available.

Hmmmm, affordable 50mm lenses? Well, there's my screw-mount Canon 50mm/f1.8 which I got from Ebay, which came attached to a nice Canon IIf camera which takes nice pictures too. Lens works great on the little CL. I think I paid around $160 for the camera + lens. Oh, and there's the Jupiter lens... They're very inexpensive. I have a black one and it looks right at home on the CL.

Then there's this little oddity - its a 45mm Minolta lens. I paid about $175 for it. I just sort of guesstimate the framing between the 40mm and 50mm framelines. It produces a kind of retro, low-contrast sort of picture!

I've been curious about this stylish little lens. Any images you can share or point to showing what it can do?

Hmmmm, probably not on the computer, but while I have film in the other camera I will be sure to shoot some with this lens and post them when I get them back on the CD.

Great site! Thanks for compiling all that information!
I will try to contribute to it soon but wedding season is coming up... actually, should be interesting to write about what it's like to use during a fast-paced event. hmm...
