Leicaflex SL Battery cover 'stuck'

In yet another of my "brilliant" idiocies I appear to have over-screwed the battery cover into the otherwise empty battery chamber. I suspect I tightened it until it went below the thread as I can't unscrew the damn thing. (I only wanted to see if the CRIS adapter in my Sekonic meter would fit the camera & work the light meter.)

It looks as though I could free the cover if I could remove the baseplate but I read in another thread in this forum, "Leicaflex insanity", that I'd have to unscrew the square head in the tripod hole and I haven't yet found a tool that fits.

So, before I get into any further trouble and ruin a perfectly good camera...
is there a way to easily remove the cover without taking off the base plate? I suspect some kind of vacuum attachment so I can pull the cover back onto the threads but I don't know if that's possible or where I would find such a thing.

Thank you harvester, exactly what I needed. Strange that Google didn't bring up these links but perhaps it's the way I formulated the search question.

Still, good to know I'm not the only one that's done this.

the bizarre thing is that both your Q and these answers came up in my google search when i was trying to see whether it's worth buying a cheap leicaflex SL body with a missing battery cap.

i was curious to see if they are unique to the model.

i seem to have a hankering for another classic chunk of wetzlar metal 🙂

Too funny.

Anyway, I followed one response from your links and held up the camera (base down) and used a screw driver to gently turn the cap until it engaged the thread. That, by the way, is when you discover just how heavy this camera can be.
Then I spent 10 minutes trying to find the cap after it fell on the floor and rolled off! My old dog just learnt a few new words...
