Mike and Cal,
Well, remaining off topic for a little while longer, I've retired, well actually I probably got fired for being a curmudgeonly old git. Looking back one realises how much time gets wasted in a job try to explain to people that they are not doing the right thing. Why? Because you've made that mistake before and don't want those younger than you to go through the same grief.
Yes, I think society is less tolerant of the 'individual'. I also mourn the erosion of individuality and difference in towns and cities, the decline in regional variations, national idiosyncrasies and even local accents. I fear that the age of instant communication is averaging everything out.
Everywhere is also full.
Back to the SL MOT and motor. What's the appeal? Well, who else on earth could have made such a thing?
It so, errr, German!

Mike,
Sherry Krauter made a great point, and to me it was a sales pitch: "The SL2 is the most overbuilt camera Leica ever made." Sherry personally shoots a SL, and she kinda said that the SL is a mighty sturdy camera, "But with the SL2 Leica with the overbuilding became rediculas." Sherry then infered that it made SL2's harder to work on. My spin is that it is like working on a Diesel engine verses a gasoline motor.
Then there is another two pronounced sales points. In the mid 70's the cost of a SL2 was about double that of a Nikon F2, and it is said that Leica actually lost money on every SL2 that they sold.
I just happen to love the VF'er. The only fault I can say about the camera is that the VF'er isn't 100% like my Pro Nikons.
Anyways the retro 70's feel from a time when I was in collage/art school is kinda the exclaimation point when cameras were kinda basic. Back then the Canon AE-1 was a big deal. Not for everyone, but I love-love mine.
BTW I use a Leica Neveready case for carrying my SL2-MOT that originally was made for a R8/R9.

What with Leicaflexes and the M5 Leitz must have been having a financially tough time in the early '70s.
I have heard that the SLs lost them money but I do enjoy the legend about the one that fell out of a Phantom jet!
