Leicameter MR problem

I've bought a Leicameter MR recently for my M2. Worked fine to start with but after a couple of days use it went dead, so I replaced the battery. I used the alkaline PX625A and it worked for a short while then stopped working again. As I'd had the battery in the cupboard for quite a while as the spare for the OM1 I got a fresh one but same thing happened, it worked for a few minutes then stopped again.

Is it the voltage? Should I look for a different sort of battery, if so what and where, or is it likely to be the meter needing servicing?

Are the formerly good batteries dead when the meter quits after a few minutes?

If so, sounds like a short.

I sent mine to DAG. He charges $50.00 to fix'em which includes adjusting for alkaline batteries. These take mercs as you may know but using an akaline won't cause your problem.
