I've decided to play with the Leitz Ceyoo synchroblitzer flash unit that I have received. I have an M3 and I'm trying to figure out what I need to make it work and have a few basic questions.

I am missing:
  1. A battery. From what I read the Everready 412 should do the trick. Is this correct?
  2. The cord. From what I've read on other posts here, there is a special cord for the M series cameras, versus the . The connection to the flash unit has two holes, one being bigger than the other. If I see a cord on an auction site, is there a way to tell if the seller is clueless?
  3. Bulbs. The flash has a bayonet fit. There's a wide array of types, but the manual says, among others, M2 and M3 bulbs fit. Are the M2b and M3b the same fit? Are these the best? What are the guide numbers of the bulbs that fit the M3?
Any help or insight would be appreciated.

If anyone has a cord they are willing to sell, let me know.

I'll take a quick stab at your questions.

1. Yes the Everyready 412 is correct. You can order from Radio Shack for one.

2. I found a link to an auction for the M3 type. http://cgi.ebay.com/Leica-Leitz-Flash-Cable-IIIf-RD-era_W0QQitemZ370149003005QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFilm_Cameras?hash=item370149003005&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318
The non M3 version (which I have) has a slightly differently shaped chrome housing for the camera end plug compared to the one pictured. The one pictured doesn't show the two prongs on the other end, because it has a cover on it. Go for it.
3.M2b and M3b are just the blue bulb version of the M2 and the M3. I may be wrong, but I think they are too small for CEYOO. I have used the GE 5 bulbs recently with good results. I used the guide numbers off of the box, since I couldn't find my "handy" guide number card.

I would recommend finding a test bulb (non flashing) that fits the CEYOO if you don't have one. That helps when you are first setting it up and testing connectivity.

Hey thanks very much.

I searched for Leica flashes but I never saw that link. There was an another auction ending which had two different cords, plus another unit, so I took a shot.

I do have a test bulb. Do you press the shutter to test it or does it light up as soon as you connect it?

The test bulb works only when you press the shutter or otherwise short the contacts.

On the auction you won, it looks like one of the cables will work on the M3 with the CEYOO flash. It looks like the flash that is included in the auction is the more compact Chico flash. The other cable looks like it will work with the M3 and Chico flash. I never owned a Chico flash, but from the pictures of it I have seen, it takes the same size flashbulbs as the CEYOO. The Chico takes an Eveready 505 or 2 AA batteries depending on the version

Thanks again for your help! I'll probably give away the Chico to anyone who wants to pay for shipping. I think it is plastic. I think the vintage metal flash is neat , but the plastic isn't doing anything for me.
