Leica LTM Leitz Leica Elmar 50mm f2.8 LTM

Dear Friends,

I have just ordered a leitz elmar 50mm f 2.8, serial 1549239 to be used on a M2 with adapter.
Can you please inform the aproximate manufacture year, and the filter size for this lens? Any information is welcomed.

1958, filter size 39mm.

It should take the same 39mm filter size that is used on the majority of Leitz lenses for many years. It uses a clip-on hood #12585. Somebody else will have to tell you the exact age.

Nice lens. 1955/1960 period.

I images in a similar manner to to the dual range and rigid Summicrons of that era, ie sharp but not overly contrasty.

Be sure to know that this lens is HAZE friendly, that is, grow haze behind the front lens. The images will be affected by that.

If it is growing it sounds more like fungus than haze. Fungus can be cleaned but will grow back over time, particularly in humid or moist environments.
