I was wondering if it is possible to discover the delivery history of a Leitz lens. In the Kugellager thread here I have seen some questions regarding camera body delivery records. Do records exist for the lenses too? Thanks.

Yes, they do these too are all locked up now with the rest of the Leica delivery records and are currently NOT accessable to the general public.

Jim Lager may have archived information on pre May 1945 lens deliveries, but I know for sure that post May 8th 1945 records have never been archived by anyone outside of the factory.

Many 1943 serial numbered lenses were still being issued "new" to cameras in 1945 and 46 and when they ran out the post May 1945 lenses these then were issued, also the orignal Summarit`s (Taylor & Hobson) had 1939 era issue numbers and were sold in 1949!

Thanks Tom. I have a couple of Summars that are 1937 and 1934, and am looking at an Elmar from 1940. Someday it would be interesting to learn their history. Will there be any info. like this in your upcoming book? Has Jim Lager published these archives elsewhere? Please excuse all the questions, but I am new to this stuff.
