What type/model adapter do I need to mount Canon or Nikon lenses on a Bessa L? All I'm interested in is a 21 or a 28. Thanks.
The answer could be "none needed", if the lenses are screw-mount. Canon's rangefinder cameras took screw mount lenses compatible with Leica thread (and the Bessa L). Nikon also offered lenses in the Leica thread mount, but their own RF cameras were bayonet mount like the Contax cameras.
Of course, both Canon and Nikon have since made bayonet-mount SLR lenses, which can be adapted as well. There will be no rangefinder coupling for focus, so you'd have to set the focus by the lens distance scale. Which of course is the normal way on the Bessa L anyway! See the Cameraquest website for more info on various adapters.

You cannot adapt M-mount lenses to LTM cameras or SLR lenses to M-Mount or LTM mount cameras, but there are dozens of LTM lenses out there. Here is a great list compiled by our rangefinder forum head bartender:

A Canon Lens Mount Converter B will adapt Canon FL/FD lenses to an LTM mount camera. The focusing scale on the lens will show the correct distance. Nikon adapters are also available.
