Lens Adapters

I'm a fan of lens adapters. I have an OM-EOS adapter and M46-EOS adapter for my Digital Rebel that allow me to use all my Zuikos and a couple Super-Taks on my digital SLR. My experience with these has been so good, I decided to gamble on the new SLR-M adapter from Stephen Gandy: http://www.cameraquest.com/adaptslrRFM.htm

It arrived today, and a CV 25mm VF that I also ordered to go with my Zuiko 24mm lens. With the adapter I can use my 24, 28 and 35mm Zuikos. My 50mm too I guess, and maybe even my Zuiko 100mm. I think it's best for zone focusing though so intend to use it mainly with the wide angle lenses.

great minds on the same wavelength, I have been eyeing these all day on Gandy's site. Is the one you have the RF coupled version or the one you zone focus with? I would love to get the RF coupled one (but I think 350.00 is a tad high) but will probably get the non coupled to use with my Nikkors, esp my 24/2.8. I would love to see some pics and here your opinion on useability, I'm headed to Cancun in a couple weeks and this would come in handy on my M3!

Todd, this is the *expensive* (sigh) RF-coupled one. I don't have enough experience yet with that side of it to give any feedback, but I'll be trying it out in the next few days. It fits really nicely on the Bessa and looks well machined.

I'll try it with my 100mm on some portraits. That should be a good test of the RF coupling.

Todd I have the Nikon one you're considering. It's marked NI-AI LENS - LM. I use my 28mm Nikkor on my M6 with this adapter and it works just fine! Cost about $100 from Stephen well over a year ago but I think they've gone up since then.

It can be a bit fiddly getting the adapter off the lens but that's probably because I don't use it too much. Recommended.

do you use hyperfocal focusing? The 24mm has marks for 5.6-22 I think, how difficult is it to shoot with?

Yes I do, it's kind of hit and miss, my 28mm has marks for f5.6, f11, f16 and f22. No marks for f2.8, f4, f8. I think part of it is that I don't use the lens too much on my M6, so I'm not in the habit of estimating distance reasonably accurately.

The largest aperture I've used is f5.6 and the results have been OK. I don't think I'd use the adapter on a 50 or an 85 somehow. I plan on sticking with a wide-angle lens where the DOF in the lens takes care of most distance estimating errors. I'm happy with mine. 🙂

Well this is good to hear! I ordered the nikkor adapter and was feeling a little stupid, you know buyers remorse. Glad to see there's others as stupid as me, I mean astute, farseeing individuals.

I ordered the basic adapter. I have a nikkor 35/2.8 and 24/2.8 I will use with it. I had thought about getting a 17-35/2.8 but that would be pretty big on a leica MP.
