I thought my Summicron 35 flared too much (see photo 1), creating low overall contrast. The problem was I had no lenscap, so I used the uv-filter on all the time. Then I bought the lens cap, took off the filter - and... much less flare! (picture 2). Ok, there is flare but nice flare and not that hazy overall lowering of the contrast from pic # 1.

Some day I might even get a lens shade 🙂

(Now don't tell me it's not flare but just bad exposure in pic #1... My exposure confidence is quite low as it is right now... Soon I will have finnished my first film/dev test, so I have some sort of baseline to start from.)

I shouldnt say it but im gona anyway I guess. The first picture looks underexposed, I dont think ive ever seen a flare problem like this before, the second photo looks a lot better. Even with the problem with the first photo a few minutes in photoshop could fix it up no problem. Could it be that in the first photo your lens was fogged a bit from condensation out there in the snow and your warm hands or something like that?

And I told you not to! 🙂

Ok, but this flare is quite bad. And I havn't seen it since I got the lens cap.

BTW, today I bought a lens shade as well!
