So, I bought a lens coding kit. Very easy and a lot faster and cheaper than having my lenses coded by Leica. But here's my problem: I have a Summilux 50mm, first generation. The code on the code sheet only is for version II and the asph. What about the other versions? What will go wrong if I use the version II code on a verison I lens?

My suggestion: Try them both and look to see if you can see a difference. If not, flip a coin. The 50's and above are not corrected much.

It shows that I should use the Asph. coding for my C-Sonnar 50mm, but I did not see any change between the two codes. There may be, but it would be minor.

Hi, the effects of 6 bits coding on the picture are for 35mm lens and less.
Coding a 50mm will show the focal length and the widest aperture in the EXIF, that almost all what it does.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. But then, why don't they just have one code for all the 50mm's?

Because it says Summicron 2.0, Summilux 1.4 or Noctilux 1.0 in the EXIF
... and it must give you some reason to buy the coded bayonet mount.
I don't think there is much software difference between the Summicron 11817 and the 11819. Anyway, both do not vignette or have cyan drift.
