Canadian & Not A Dentist
On Friday I walked into my local camera store; you know, the one where "everybody knows your name" (in this case, "everybody" usually means all the sales guys. . . ) and I was curious about the timing of the Fuji 14mm and 18-55mm that can be sold separately from the XE-1.
You see, the local camera store had "The Fuji Guys" in on Thursday last week and they had with them a pre-production 14mm. Sadly I wasn't around to see it but it certainly got me to wondering "Does this mean they're going to have them in stock soon??"
Upon meandering in to store, saying my requisite "hellos", I bellied up to the counter to ask one of the sales manager guys about the lenses. "What say you good man? I was, uh, sitting at work browsing B&H's website just now, skimming over various lenses by Fuji, and I suddenly came over all anxious."
"Anxious Sir?"
"Distressed" I said.
"Eh?"
"The lenses..." I replied
"Ahhhhh.. lenses!!"
I proceeded "Yes. I thought to myself, "a little Fujinon 14mm will do the trick," so, I curtailed my Walpoling activites, sallied forth, and infiltrated your place of purveyance to negotiate the vending of some Fuji glassware"
"Come again?"
Frustrated I told him "I want to buy the 14mm"
"Oh, I thought you were complaining about the bazouki player!"
That said, it turns out that Fuji is horribly behind on production of both these lenses - the zooms have been "eaten up" by the XE-1 kits and the 14mm is not due until sometime in January according to the camera store guy and having just checked the B&H website again, the 14mm is not due until January 31 2013.
So if you're like me and love cheese... you'll be waiting a while for these two lenses to be available on their own.
Cheers,
Dave

the good thing is that it gives us more time to get to know the 18 and 35 lenses.

Ah, that is why the kits with the 18-55 are running late....

It seems to be delayed for longer in the USA. In Australia, the 14 is still scheduled for 2nd week of Dec. This has been confirmed by Fujifilm Australia.

I enjoyed reading that post Dave, really funny.
But oh well - hopefully they can pull some fuji magic out and bring the availability forward. I would REALLY like to see some examples with that 14mm.

I feel your pain! I took advantage of the special offer over here in the UK - I ordered an X-Pro1 along with the zoom lens, with the intention to claim the 35mm f1.4 as my freebie (only the 18mm and the 35mm are offered free in the deal). So... the camera arrived today, without the zoom lens obviously, and I have to send off a form and wait for Fuji to send the 35mm. Agh! I expect that I won't have any lens to use on my camera for at least a couple of weeks...

I'm with Joe, it's the 56 I'm interested in...I like the map, though, very much.

A long ways off I'm tipping, shame as that's the one I'm waiting on. Tempting just to pick up an x100 instead.
