Lens Detectin ON + UV/IR ?

When you are using a Non-6bit coded lens With an IR filter on, which option do you use in the Menu?

On + UV/IR

or

OFF

?

Off. The coding tells the M8 what lens corrections to make with or without the IR filter. Since there isn't a Off/On choice then you can't tell the camera what lens you have on. (Leica, please let us manually add the focal length! please!)
Try it both ways and see what happens. only will make a difference with wide lenses <35 mm.

I have mine set to ON+UV/IR Filter. Seems to work just fine, and not coded lens for at least 20 miles. For all i know, i'm the only m8 owner in Iowa. ;-)

There are some very easily hand-coded lenses. Don't hesitate to experiment with the 35, 28, 24, 21's, etc.

The coding is used in the "paint-by-numbers" pre-processing of both JPEG and DNG file writing. The IR/UV filter is just that, for IR/UV, and unless the firmware /knows/ the lens(coding), you will get kruft in your images with lenses "unknown".

I use it for only coded lenses(CV 15,25 & 35), thus an event-driven tweak.

Is your Nocti coded? Just curious... oh, and you've the 75 'lux too(no?)

hi dave see,

my nocti and the 75 lux are both uncoded. this is all very confusing for me. i've just been going 'off' for uncoded lenses and 'on+IR' for my coded lenses and it seems to be okay so i'll just stick with that.

i wish they also had an option for just 'IR/UV' to indicate a lens with no coding but with a IR filter. I'm guessing thats what 'OFF' means but 'OFF' can also go for non-coded, non-IR filtered lenses too...

If the lens is uncoded, it does not matter. When the lens is not recognized by the camera, the corrections are not applied, thus the setting is irrelevant.
