Hi,

I purchased a GT on eBay before the summer, which had some fairly bad fungus in the lens. I have been very impressed by the test roll (see the shots attached), so would like to clean the lens for more regular use. I have taken out the front element using my lens spanner, but am stuck with the next element (which looks different to that in the repair/service manual I found). There are some small holes in the mount which could be used, but it is really tight and I cannot get it to unscrew. Any advice, does this element come out in a different way?

Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh
you have taken off the ring that says color yashinon etc etc on it?
you will see the lens element , with a space around it. get a rubber kitchen glove and either wear it or cut a rubber cloth kind of thing and use that to grip the lens element and unscrew it, it comes out fairly easily, you can also wear two and use your thumbs to ease it around, then clean it and rescrew it in. the rubber cloth thing is useful for all sorts of things unscrewing the winder screw, asa screw, you just need to pull it over your thumb and press down and unscrew, and the stickiness of the rubber helps.
if you need help, just Pmail me.
best luck

JUST REREADING you post, do you have thefront lens element out, and want to remove the back element. Hmm, I havent done that but I think you will need to peel the leatherette and remove the lens. I will also check my repair manual.
Ask greyhoundman he knows, also look at the yashica guy website, there are all sorts of wires there.

Hi Nathen,

Thanks for the tips, yes I have managed to remove the front element and am having trouble with those behind. I think the fungus lives on the inside of the rear element, and while to reach this properly I probably have to remove the whole thing, I was hoping I could clean it through the shutter. I guess greyhoundman would be the guy to speak to, he seems know his stuff when it comes to electros!

P.S. Where abouts in London are you (from one Levin(e) to another)!
