my canon 35/2.8 has a filter size of 34mm (even though the canon museum say it's 40mm).
i have 2 lens hoods for 34mm but they don't work on a wide angle lens w/o vignetting.

i really prefer to use a hood but i can't find anything for the canon. my usual sources on the net have nothing.

so i'm hoping that one of you good folks might have something in the junk box that would work for me.
or know where i might look to find one.

thanks,
joe

Joe, there was a thread a couple days ago in which you said that you were able to find hoods regularly for your Canon lenses. Just yesterday or the day before I posted a link to an ebay auction for a Canon hood that fit on 50 and 35mm lenses. I can't find the thread right now, you may have better luck, or recall its title.

Joe: When I bought the 35/3.2 Canon Serenar (about 30 years ago) that I hated so much, the store threw in a lens hood because I asked for one. It worked fine. I still have it, a Leitz FOOKH, but they seem to sell for far too much these days. It was designed to fit 35/3.5 Elmar and Summaron lenses, and doesn't vignette.

I recently bought a Canon hood that was engraved '50mm f1.8 35mm f 3.2 ' so I thought that if it fits the f3.2 , it will fit the f 2.8 35mm since they both take the 36 mm slip on filter . I was wrong, it will only fit the chrome 35s wih a special 36mm reduction ring that was sold separetly (in the 1950s). This ring was a slip on type with a snug screw. It still was no loss, as I needed a hood for my 50mm f1.8, and this hood was a direct fit.

i'm not sure how i missed these 2 posts yesterday?!

victor, is that a push on hood that fits over a 34mm size and is it for sale?

many thanks zuikoman!

i have email the seller to see if they would work on 35mm wide angle.

i didn't see these on ebay canada.

Joe, here's my solution to the problem of using filters and hoods on my Elmars, Hektor and Summaron lenses that accept the Leitz A-36 clamp-on filters and accessories.

The camp-on filter I used was worthless as anything except a lens cap as you can see that the filter coating has deteriorated. The step-up ring is a 39mm-49mm size and required me to ream the center opening in order to fit over the A-36 filter. A 40.5 step-up ring to 43mm, 46mm or 49mm fits over the A-36 filter but will need a filler to take up the small gap between the pieces. Shouldn't be a problem, really.

I had to use a Dremel tool to remove the glass from the A-36 filter as even a spanner wrench wouldn't break loose the retaining collar.

Don't have an A-36 clamp-on filter? I have an extra (the one in the picture, actually) that I'll mail to you. No charge, of course. You should be able to get a 39mm or 40.5mm step-up ring to whatever size you want easily enough. If you're interested, PM me and give me your address.

walker,

got your p.m. sorry i missed this earlier.

i might take you up on your offer if i can't find a proper hood.
my handyman skills are non existant and so i rarely try anything that requires them.
you should see me putting ikea furniture together. :)

Joe, just let me know. I'm not all THAT handy myself!

Walker, you spelled "Dremel" correctly AND used it correctly in a sentence.

To those of us who have to stop and think 'turn left or right???' every time we use a screwdriver, that qualifies you as an expert.

 /ScottGee1

Joe: RFF wouldn't allow me access at the end of January so I lost track of this thread. I never use the FOOKH shade because I have both a FISON and a FIKUS (Leica has away with acronyms) to use on my 50/3.5 Serenar and 90/4 Elmar. I'll send it to you on approval so you can try it on your lens.

i thought i felt a disturbance in the force...

thanks, i hope it works on the little 35.
have you been thinking about a price?
do i want to know?

Don't offer money until you're sure it fits and works. There's always trades...a Leica lens hood for a Canon P?
