This is almost funny-
I did a search for 'summicron hood' on ebay and noticed several vendors from china selling metal black vented hoods in 39mm pretty cheap.
So without much worry I hit 'buy it now' on one that was like eight dollars plus some fixed amount of shipping.... Went ahead and sent the paypal..
The end I think I'll have a nice expendable chinese hood in a week or ten days...

Two days later ebay sends me an email saying the listing violated policy and has been removed, and I should not feel obliged to pay for the auction.

Um oops, turns out the cheap chinese hood was one of dozens of low priced items added by a hijacker using an established power sellers account..

I know to look out for the big ticket scams like a new in box summicron for six hundred bucks if you send western union now, but never did I think I needed to worry about a ten dollar:bang: lens hood!

From now on, even with buy it now for little things, I'll always wait until I get an email from the seller and make sure the email address matches the seller's email in ebay's records..

Dammit.

"heavystar" (the ebay handle) is a good and reliable source for various kinds of shades, among them vented in 39, 40.5, 43mm (but i guess many of you know that).

I just got an email back from the seller, and turns out the guy really does exist and all was legit, there was some word or link in the auction, or something that ebay didn't like and almost all of the chinese sellers auctions were cancelled. buyitjnow was the seller, now all that is left is transformer action figures..
Nice guy even supplied a tracking number..
The shade was the same as the ones heavystar etc. sells.

Ebay did the same thing to me once, I was selling a camera or something, and I mentioned 'auctionsniper' as a good sniper site, and bam, my auction was gone about an hour after it was posted. No chance to fix it, no warning, no reply as to why, just boilerplate automatic email.
I finally found some rule about referencing sites that require your ebay password. Fair enough, but damn, give a guy a chance to fix it, i spent thirty minutes on the text of that stupid auction..

But they can't detect a guy in romania wanting western union for 900 for a new jet ski with free shipping.
