I love love love my Yashica GSN, but I hate hate hate the lack of shutter speed information. So...now that I have a bessa, what is the most similar lens to the yashinon 1.7 in m or ltm mount? Look for character and sharpness here which the yashica has in *****s.

Hm....this might need to turn in to a new project for me, Frakenleica! Will I be able to stuff the yashinon into an m mount? Just thinking out loud here...

ps. why is the word s p a d e s censored?

Hm, I guess that's a matter of habit, but what do you want it for? I found the warning light pretty sufficient in most situations, with the possible exception of low-light situations where I would have liked to know if I'm at a handholdable 1/15 or a not-so-handholdable 1/4. But even then it's easy to guess with a bit of experience, and the GSN shutter is quite forgiving with regards to handholdability at slow speeds.

Well, sort of buying a converted GSN lens from the aforementioned Japanese shop, I would say CV Nokton 40/f1.4. Sharp, quite contrasty, but not too much so, nice grays, and very compact and fast. It will be my next lens once the GAS moratorium runs out at the end of this year or so.

Yashica made a 45/1.8 LTM lens that I've seen (pictures only) on /some/ of their Yashica YF/Nicca Leica clones. Hove no idear how they perform, and lotsa luck finding one... You might get lucky and find an orphan lens floating around there's no guarantee that it will have the same look or the same optical formula as the GSN.

However, there /is/ a solution to your problem. In a word - (Yashica/)"Contax". Get yourself a G1 or a G2 (pretty reasonable and fairly easy to find) and get the later Yashica-made "Contax" lenses. By all accounts these are top-notch near-Leica league glass. But again, no guarantee it will have the GSN's signature .

I have no idear if they'll have the same look as the Yashica glass on the GSN, which I agree is verrrrry nice. Personally, I don't find not having shutter speed information that big of a deal since you can guess at it fairly well imo. Anything below 1/30 the "Under" light goes on. If you get into the habit of premetering using the indicators on the top plate, you pretty much can guess pretty accurately.

The LTM Yashica is the Yashinon 50mm f1.8, ltm. (It's a 50 not a 45 like I said in my earlier post...) Another consideration if you can live without a rangefinder is get a Yashica SLR from the same era along with one of their standard primes.

Avotius, for 45$ - 50$ you can buy another GSN... what the heck. Quit worrying about spending money to remount and just buy lotsa GSN's .. maybe enough to cover your desk 😀

BTW I agree about that lens properties but like Chaser and Phillipp have noted it may be tough to get what you want, even if it exists.
