The close focus wide open shots have been out of focus on my FED 2. Before I start tweaking the rangefinder cam I checked the lens mount to film distance and it's 28.5mm -- .3mm short. I used a plastic dial caliper. I have a friend with more accurate measuring devices and I will wait until I can use them but it does appear the lens mount flange needs some shimming.
Any tips on making lens mount shims for these cameras?

The Soviets used paper, as do I. I collect various thicknesses of paper and keep them on hand. Onionskin paper, Avery label backing paper, index card stock, etc. The various thicknesses can be combined to make up what you need. No glue needed, However, some papers will compress as the flange is tightened, so allow for that if appropriate. The allowable range for an LTM lens is 28.78 to 28.82 millimeters. That's a lot of paper.
