Lens pouches: small rf lenses

i was talking about this with a few friends. here in australia for the tourist market somebody makes coin pouches out of kangaroo scrotums.

we'd have to do some research into the size of kangaroo scrotums but they could possibly make great lens pouches.

You might try climbers chalk bags. Couldn't post the link but google Mammut and go to climbing accessories and check out the chalk bags. They are fleece lined and can be used with or without the supplied straps.

I can attest that chalk bags make great little lens pouches. Zing also makes little bags out of neoprene which do a good job. I've also been known to use the fleecy little bags that come free when you buy a bottle of Crown Royal whisky...

There are all sorts of options out there, most of which should be really cheap. If you are handy with a sewing machine, you should be able to whip together something of your own, too.

I have to say this may be most unusual and unexpected response I have read on RFF. By all means, let us know the results of your dimensioning research.

Just wondering...would they be more protective than other parts of the 'roo? 😛

Frances sews little bags from chamois leather, the classic 1920s/1930s solution. I also have a couple of microfibre pouches. I don't much care for fleece because it can shed fibres. The best ones don't but some cheap ones do (I see them at photokina). The same is true of socks: you need to choose your socks carefully.

Cheers,

R.

I bought some lens pouches off of Ebay from some Chinese vendor. For most M bayonet lenses except for some super wideangles, high-speed standards and 90mm lenses, the smallest size (C1 ) should be sufficient. The pouches are made of very soft fabric and have an even softer inner liner. As far as I can see, the pouches do not shed any lint or fibres.

These look good, are cheap as chinese (Yup, trying to launch a new saying here) and I like the part in the ad where it says you can also fit your Olymupus lenses in them😛

Thanks for this tip

I've ordered a couple to try. They look about the right size for what I need.

I just did two of those, one for an Olympus VF-1, one for DR googles. Easy enough, nice, sturdy and protective. They come out like the CV viewfinder chamois pouches, just a bit larger. You have to use a strong needle and sow by hand, for thick chamois.

Thanks all for your suggestions. Today I went to REI (a US outdoors product store) and looked at the climber chalk bags. They looked quite good for carrying several lenses on one's belt. i was looking for some thin protection for lenses inside other bags. The chalk bags seemed too large for that, taking up even more space than the lens wraps.

But I did find microfiber cleaning cloth and storage bag, for $4.95 each. These are meant for eyewear. Mine is from Suncloud (www.suncloud.com) but is not listed on their website. Internet searches bring up others however.

Here's why I'm belaboring the point. These are quite large enough to take two lenses, possibly three. I'm planning on supergluing two rear caps together so i can use the bags for two lenses w/o banging them together.

Added bonus: the bag is just large enough to act as a slip case for my M6 (thus, presumably for other M's, but not the M5). Not large enough for an RD1s.

This should allow a two camera, four lens setup to go one around the neck at the ready and the rest in a modest size fanny pack.

Now to look for really small bags that can protect a viewfinder or two. Might have to resort to getting some cloth of my one and finding a seamstress or learning myself.

Thanks again.
