Lens Red-Dot replacement

Hey all-

I have a Leica lens that has had its red dot fall off. Out of practical reasons, not vanity, I was wondering if any one has any quick tips on replacement. I find the red dot or any other marker there helps tremendously in lens change speed. I can change my red dot indexed lenses in about 1/8th the time I change my VC-ltm adapted lenses.

I was thinking of widdling down some piece of plastic, painting it red and glueing it on. Any more easy/elegant ways out there? I am sure this has been done before, which is why I even bother to ask.

I took a red bead from the crafts store, sanded it down, and crazy glued it in place. Looks exacly like the original. Stu

Get serious! Go to the local jeweller and have him set a small ruby. 😀

Actually it is the only Leica replacement part that is priced sensibly.Plus a dollop of superglue.... 😉

Ah, yes an old problem. Go to a Dollar Store (used to be only a dime), or any supermarket with stationary items and buy a package of plastic childrens water color brushes. With a box knife cut off the end of a red colored brush handle. Use sandpaper if necessary to clean up the cut; super glue in place.

I wanted to add dots to some of my LTM lenses in screw-to-bayo adapters, to make them easier to change in the dark.

I mixed up some liquid epoxy glue and added enough red nail polish to make it bright red. (Carl Zeiss fans probably can do Zeiss blue dots if they can find blue nail polish.)

Then I just put one drop in the correct spot on each lens and left the lens with the dot facing up (so it wouldn't run off) until the epoxy dried.

The epoxy-plus-nail-polish liquid is viscous enough that it pulls up into a reasonably round dot all on its own.

I read that Leica NJ gives them away, all you have to do is call them. (seriously!)

Peter_N & ERV are correct. Leica will send you 1 for free (they also recommend regular Crazy Glue/cyanoacrylate adhesive).
