lens-release button the black chrome M-A?

I noticed that when you look at Leica's website here

https://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/About-the-M-System

the photo of the M-A has the M7 "on/off" switch next to the shutter release. lol

cheers, michael

Having a look at he website here MA details,
https://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Leica-M-A/Details
If you click between black or chrome the black one has the on off switch!
Maybe they are going to release a version with a meter but where would the battery go😉

My M4 has the aforementioned screw-top lens release button. I don't think I've ever even thought about the differences between the buttons until now. People with M-As are away that the M4 exists, right? There is this camera...called the M4, which is a film Leica without a meter...and they're like +/-$1000 bucks in great condition. You don't HAVE to pay $4200 bucks for an M4 copy and a single roll of Tri-X. People are aware of this, right?

All the MA owners will be along presently to give you a good bashing😀

You will probably find the majority of M-A owners are not buying it as their first or only film M, but may be seeing it as their last film M.
The appeal over a M4 may be that it has not already seen 40 years of use and has a clearer multicoated viewfinder.

Is something going to happen to my M4 which would prohibit it from being my last M? Can I not upgrade the finder to a multicoated version?

The M-A is actually $1000. Leica charges $3000 for the roll of Tri-X.

Notice how the film advance lever mechanism is canted/tilted? So much for build excellence.
It's perfectly aligned on both my M3 cameras - after over 50 years of use.
Just checked my M5 - used since the 1970s - perfectly aligned on that one too.
Same for all the other Ms I have.

I've got an MA and yes the expense was a bit silly given I could have bought a couple of good black chrome M4s for the money but I love it. I'll pass it down to my kids when I'm done with it knowing that much of their childhood was captured with it. I've definitely made worse photographic purchase decisions in the past and I have no regrets. I bought it barely used from a dealer so didn't pay the full ticket price.

I have owned a few other film Ms and the MP and MA are my favourites. Build quality seems the same as the oldies to me.

Yes. I think M-A will be much better received if Leica releases a 0.58x version. youxin can do the finder coating upgrade for a M4 but i don't think he can do the magnification change (please correct me if i'm wrong). People wearing glasses, like me, can't really see the 35mm framelines easily on current M-A (or any 0.72x M). in fact, even wearing contact lense I can't see them easily unless I place the eyepiece really close to my right eye. maybe because my correction prescription is very high (-6.50)?

I'm pretty sure he can. Also, I have sold an M3 that had a .85 VF in it so there is for sure SOMEONE out there that can.

I was just quoted 1,500 USD for the cost of replacing a M6 nonTTL's 0.72x VF with 0.58x. Guess M-A wouldn't be any cheaper. Youxin said I'd better just get a M6 TTL .58x. and I did. and now so glad I didn't jump on the M-A. the .58x VF is just so much better for 35mm framelines.

Out of burning curiosity I had to pull out my M7 and M4-2 from their camera bags to have a look at the lens release lock button. The M7 has the flat dotless release button shown in the "actual" M-A picture above. The M4-2 has a depression in the middle for an orange dot, but no screwhead is present.

Both my cameras are black chrome. I do have some peeves:
1) The hinged plastic tip on the wind lever tends to make arcuate marks on the wind lever.

2) When you flip open the rewind lever and start winding, you end up with an arcuate mark on the top of the rewind lever where it meets the sharp edge of the wind knob.

These seem far less obvious on silver chrome cameras, for some reason. I know that this seems super nit-picky. But, since we are delving deep into the aesthetics of these cameras, I had to get it off my chest.
