Has anyone of you purchased lens shades (hoods) from Thorsten von Overgaard that he sells for about USD 175? It appears that these lens shades looks the same as the ones that you can get from China for just a few bucks with free shipping. Or is there something so special that I failed to notice?

That they are von Overgaard, of course. :D

China-made or not - it is the story that comes with it, that costs $175.

For that amount of money, it might be cheaper to hire someone to hold up their hand to shield for the sunrays...

$175?

You could buy 3 FSU cameras for that. Or perhaps a couple of the cheaper old slr's. Or half a dozen box cameras.

chinese delivery is no longer an attractive part of the deal...i've been waiting for more than a month for delivery for a cheap hood.

When you say "no longer," do you mean that there has been a recent change in the mail from China? I bought a couple of lens hoods for a Canonet from China, within the last six months, and I got them within a couple of weeks.

i have been ordering small, cheap goods from china and hong kong for a long time...my last 2 orders have been a disappointment...one never showed up and i got a refund and one is taking the slow road...before that deliveries were much quicker...weeks compared to months.

I'm discouraged to hear that. Thanks for letting us know.

A quick search finds that his are $199, and the original is $200, which looks cooler, is smaller, and probably gives better flare protection. I know which I'd buy...
