lensmate thumbrest...a problem

can't figure this out...

bought a lensmate for the xpro1...it fits perfectly...on/off is easy, no pressure needed to move it.

bought a lensmate for the xe-1 and it is hard to put on and almost impossible to remove...i had to use a screwdriver to leverage it off...

emailed lensmate and they sent me another for the xe-1, it just arrived...and it's the same thing! hard to get on and very hard to remove!
tried it on the xpro-1 and it's the same thing!
it makes no sense...
has anyone else had problems with the lensmate and xe-1?

the one for the xe-1 is the new design...it's a one piece, while the xpro1 one is the old design, a two piece affair.

I have a lensmate on my x100. It was hard to get on and off because of the little lip that grabs onto the EV marker next to the EV dial.

I ended up filing down the lip on the thumbrest (it is very small - use a small file and a magnifying glass and proceed slowly). I did not file it down all the way - leave a little bit of it !

It works great now - easy to remove when I want to use the external flash.

sounds like a different design than for the bigger fujis...

Same problem on the one I bought for the x100 as well. I actually bought to keep that ec dial from moving. I don't use the thumb rest portion because for me it did not feel quite right.

if the problem is a snug fit with the rails on the camera hot shoe, I would
look at polishing down the lensmate (it's soft aluminum) with some emery paper. depends on where it's tight -
the bottom face or the side edges.

I love modifying stuff - "I void warrantees" as the T-shirt says.

well, i do have 2 of them now, so i could try to sand it down a bit...but i am not very handy.
the one on the xe1 won't be coming off all that often as i use the built in flash and the xpro-1 will be the one that is used as i will use my flash units on it.

what i find strange is that there seems to be a design flaw in the new one but no one is noticing it...but me?

I just purchased the "Lensmate Fujifilm X-E1 Thumbrest+ Silver" and it works fine on my X-E1. I don't screw the little set screw in all the way, and it slides on and off fairly easily.

even with the screw completely backed off mine is still very tight.

it's not actually a design flaw - it's a tolerance stackup thing, and it may be
your cameras hot shoe that's is out of dimensional specs - it could be the
lensmate but since you tried 2 of them, it's more likely your hotshoe that is
dimensionally small.

even if they are perfectly line-to-line fit, it would be hard to slide one rail
through another because there is no "wiggle room". it might just take a very small polishing with emery paper to fix this problem.

also tried them on the xpro with the same result...though the xpro lensmate fits perfectly on the xpro...and the xe1!

tonight, i took the sandpaper to the lensmate and after a bit of manual labour...nothing, maybe a bit easier on but not off.
thinking i had nothing to lose i took a flathead screwdriver and inserted it into the opening between the top and bottom layer of the thumb thing...and then i turned it ever so gently...

and now it fits great, goes on and comes off with ease and stays put when i turn the lock screw!!

life is good!

This is a curious thread. Why? Because I went to the Lensmate site which said that they are considering a thumb rest for the XPro-1 and solicit interested parties to contact them. Assuming they know what they are producing, how is it that some of you have a Lensmate for your XPro-1?
I would like to know because I would like to find a thumb rest for mine that doesn't break the bank like Match Technical's.

I puchased a Thumbs Up EP-7S from Match Technical. It uses no set screws and it has been on my X-Pro1 from the beginning with no problems. It is a quality product. It is a little pricey but how many times will you buy one?

i think they are doing a redesign...they have had one for the xpro1 for awhile.

I had the lensmate on the X-E1 and it too was super tight, so tight you didn't need to use the set screw.

Ultimately I switched to the mT Thumbs-Up for the X-E1, I like the design better and a perfect fit.
