Just mirroring a thread that appeared on Pnet today (for those of us who don't browse there regularly). Lenswork is offering a 1-year subscription (does not apply to renewals) to their paper-magazine at a price of $19.5 or so. This is too good an offer to miss considering its usual price. I subscribed immediately. Offer ends around Christmas time I think. It's a holiday thing.

I'd be interested in hearing peoples feedback on the CD version. Are they satisfied with quality? I don't find that PDFs ever match paper quality. But if you are getting Lenswork, you surely know how good it is and if you are happy with the CD maybe I will be too.

Thanks for the heads up! I let my subscription lapse the other year and have been missing it since. I'm all over this 🙂 Man, I wish I could print like some of those guys..

On this same site you can also order "On being a photographer" by David Hurn and Bill Jay which I can thoroughly recommend.

Oooooooo!!!
This is good news.

I adore reading that magazine - it's the ONLY photo magazine I currently would read cover to cover. Good for photos for inspiration and great for the articles.

hmm.... if I didn't know better.... that statement almost sounds like I'm talking about Playboy... 😀

Dave

EDIT: I'm going to have to review the "original" cost of subscribing up here in Canuckville as I was going to do this anyway.. 😀

Taffer, Pherdinand - have a look at the Canada subscription and scroll down. Total cost for Europe would be $76 (76 euros?). Seems quite expensive for 6 issues.

I think you misunderstood zuikologist. The total cost for Europe would be $58.5 (not euros) including shipping ($19.5+$39s/h). Absurd to pay twice as much to ship as the cost of the item itself, but it must still be like 20 bucks lower than usual. Of course, I understand that this may no longer look like the bargain it would seem to US buyers. Too bad about international customers 🙁.

Thanks - apologies for my misunderstading. Seems much more appealing at that price. I sometimes see the magazine at our local Borders store, which has an excellent selection of US photography publications. I think it runs to about $15 per issue!

I got the sale on the Lenswork "Extended" CD's last year and they are terrific!

I also took them up on this offer last year and will not be renewing. While the quality of the photographs is undoubtedly excellent, I find the subject matter decidedly lacking. The only series I really liked during the year was the Chavez Ravine portfolio from Don Normark in the May/June issue. That had people in the pics. Actually that issue had a great example of what I personally don't find interesting, a series about rocks. I emphasize that I think the magazine is of the highest quality, but I just like different kinds of pictures. I'm trying a suscription to the British mag B&W Photography this year so we'll see how that goes. Hopefully I won't be as grumpy this time next year... 😉

Oh Peter,
I, too, loved the Chavez Ravine pics, but also the blacksmith/repairman story; the Cowboys on Tintypes and so many of the others.
I hope you are happier with B&W.
