Les Rencontres d'Arles: Exhibition

Some great stuff there Thomas. Particularly the animal photographs shine through. You are there at a level I have only seen in Ragnar Axelsson or Pentti Sammalahti.
On the other hand, you are a photographer good enough to avoid the cliché's. You don't need to go to Afghanistan or India to make great photos. You can find them in your back yard. Show us something beautiful about the world WE live in.

These are wonderful Thomas - really top notch stuff. I've seen and loved the Afghanistan shots before (were some of them published in UK B&W photography or am I imagining that?), but I had no idea they were by an RFFer. Humbling for the rest of us weekend hacks! Good luck with the exhibition and whatever you're working on now.

I couldn't open the link either, but I have kept an eye on your site and the work you've been doing as the images you've posted here have always been impressive. Collected together however, they truly are outstanding. Documentary photography that isn't afraid of being beautiful as well. Amazing work.

Hope the exhibition is a big success and I wish I could be there to see the prints for themselves.

Good luck Thomas

Sorry I can't see these prints in the flesh, the link didn't work for me either, but I've just spent 30 minutes looking over your online portfolio which is consistently superb and very rewarding to view.
There's a real sense of your compassion and empathy for the subjects, I thought the addict images particulary powerful, it looks like you invested quite a bit of time to achieve the access they obviously allowed you. Superb absolutely superb, and thank you for sharing, I hope the show goes well, you deserve it to.

... same here ... lovely work sir

Mfogiel, we discussed the 'closer to home' issue a while ago and I am working on it... by working on spending more time in the UK! After a chaotic few years with everything up in the air and no real home, I'm based in London now (but still overseas about 60-70% of the time) and will be able to get moving on project ideas I've not been able to touch for quite some time. They are all long-term projects, but I'll bump into more concise projects along the way I am sure. In the meantime, I have one last (?) idea up my sleeve for Afghanistan and have commenced looking for funding. Once completed, I will be going to see publishers again with the aim of publishing all the Afghanistan work in one book. Fingers crossed.

Steveh, you are correct. B&W Photography did a feature on Russians and Royals last year. Nov, I think.
