i've seen it on his site before.
i think he hauls it out every now and then and tries to sell it.
i have a few bookmarks that have beat up black p's for sale at similar prices.

i'm thinking that maybe soon i'll have one of mine done, black paint, red lettering, maybe a red leather cover...hhhmmm...

and i think i know the gent to do it also...

Black, yes, but is it factory black?

The minor controls look plausible, but otherwise it's hard to tell. Usually one tip-off is edge and corner wear -- factory-black Canons were painted over the bare brass, and show brass color when the paint wears off, while aftermarket-black Canons often are painted right over the original satin-chrome finish and show chrome at the wear points. On this one, the pictures don't show enough wear to tell.

The black D rings in the strap lugs seem a bit over-the-top, though!

with 3 (or is it 4 now?) P's why not go for several colors -- one black, one blue, one olive, etc.

If this has been carried at all, I can't imagine those strap lugs and rings staying so new looking...
 
Black Rangefinder cameras are rare, and ones that survived in EX condition and better are even more rare. A Black Nikon SP in that condition would get ~$10K -before Nikon starting making them again.

So when is Canon going to make some (edit: RF) cameras again, and if they did does ANYONE have opinions of which model it should be?

You, sir, the one jumping up and down on top of the cows, screaming "ME, ME!", do you have any recommendations?

The most sensible one to make would be a 7Sz, since that's the most developed model.

But it also would be the most complex, so the overall best choice might be the P. It was popular "back in the day," has a lot of fans now among classicists, and has simpler RF optics that would be easier to reproduce.

But undoubtedly it would be expensive, and I wonder how many people (even classicists) would be willing to pay huge bucks for an RF camera today with a blurry-edged rangefinder patch and reflected framelines, when you can get a very nice Bessa with a completely modern RF for under $600?

Nikon was able to pull it off because the collector demand for S3s and SPs exceeds the supply, whereas there always seem to be enough Canon Ps on the market to keep the price in the few-hundred-dollars range.
 
It'd be easy for Canon to use the precision plastic casting technology it introduced with the AE1, and the mechanisms for which dies already exist, to make a P-equivalent. They already have the lens designs, not to mention better modern optics that could readily be adapted. But there won't be much film, or many minilabs processing it in a few years, which does present a challenge :-(

IMO they should improve the G7...they need to compete with the new $700msrp Leica-lensed 8MP anti-shake Pansonic. IMO they'll dump the 20D, which will look bad by comparison to Pansonic and the next version of G.

OH...yes...and they should make it out of black plastic :cool:
 
One of the reasons that I hate modern cameras is that a lot of them are made out of plastic. Give me my rugged Nikon FE or an old Voigtlander, Canon, or Minolta any day. Plastic almost always feels cheap to me after handling the equipment I use every day. :)
 
I worked at a camera shop in the late '70s, when the Nikon EM was introduced. One of the salesman was a long-time Nikon fanatic. He held the EM over his head and dropped it, pentaprism down, to the floor. He picked it up and ran a roll of film through it. It survived, and he could bring himself to selling them.

It may depend how the Epson R-D1 Digital RF sales go - bet they're keeping a weather eye on it's volumes .... if they think they are not filling or missing a big enough section of the market, they'll go for it.

Any special Canon anniversaries pending ? 2006 - 50 is 1956 .... :rolleyes:

Some time ago someone asked one of those rhetorical questions and I simply visualized one of the newest kind of families you see now traveling about (two or three kids, mom supervising them and dad trying to find his way out of a maze of buttons and menus until he says "Cheese").

Now, tell these people they have fo FOCUS the camera... then you're in trouble with your customers. They were born & raised in the world of P&S cameras and focusing is something the little machine does automatically, so why bother. :(
