From the Popflash description:
Obviously the tape doesn't cover the entire undersurface of the glass or it wouldn't be as transparent. The tape is around the inner edge under the black frame. That it doesn't trap air bubbles is a function of it being a hard piece of glass, not soft plastic that adheres everywhere. The tape is very thin, so the space under the glass is also very small. But given that the thin glass has almost zero flexural strength, it doesn't need to be able to flex much to crack. As I said, I know numerous people who had theirs crack. I know other people whose didn't, but I also don't know if they ever smacked it sharply. I never bought or used one myself.
It affixes to a LCD screen with a thin layer of 3M brand double-sided tape
