Those of you who haunt both RFF and the LUF will be aware of The Leica One Challenge - one camera, one lens, one film, one shot, one location.

I invented the competition in 2004. It has now got big enough to make the hallowed pages of the current issue of Leica Fotografie International (LFI) http://www.lfi-online.de/ceemes/page/show/issue_1_08 The article can be found on page 22. Since I also came third this year, my photo (below) is on page 25. :D

Bill

One Challenge Berlin 2007 Entry.jpg

Bill,
Congrats! I came across the article yesterday.
And the next One Challenge will be in Kraków which is not too far from my wife's birthplace - so if time allows, we're going to join you.

Best regards,
Uwe

Love that photo, Bill. How does the contest work?

Thank you gentlemen.

JJ, it is quite simple. The participants gather in one city on a specific date (we started in London, and have now "done" Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin - Krakow is next) You have to use a Leica camera, Leica lens or both.

One camera, one lens/focal length, one film (or 36 exposures for digital) one ISO and two hours to capture an image that shows the spirit of the place you are in. You then submit one image for people to vote on, on the LUF. Entry is anonymous, so the photo truly stands or falls on it's own merit.

Voting is open for a fixed period, and is 3 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third place. Entry fee is 10 Euros, and the winner takes all. It is usually donated, as this year, to charity by the winner. 25 entrants this year = 250 Euros. Leica also donates some goodies - this year a jacket and hat, I believe.

But it is about the social side as much as the contest. Many bring loved ones, and stay over for a few days.

Regards,

Bill
