Light leak solutions?

I have a Canonet G III QL. I purchased one of those replacement light seal kits on Ebay about a year ago to address the gooey old foam gasket problem. I now find that I have a light leak and it may be that the new seals compressed or were never thick enough? The door would occasionally pop open which makes me think there may not be enough pressure on the latch when closed also due to the thin gasket.

I heard that some type of automotive AC duct foam tape works well for light leaks?

Can anyone tell me there experience with fixing this type of problem with additional foam tapes.

not only does the kit come precut, it has a tool to remove the gunk of the old light seal AND great instructions too. and the price is right

Even with the kit, it takes some persistence to get the old stuff out and the new stuff in at the latch side. You might give it a once over with a strong light and a loupe to see if it hasn't shifted or bunched up.

If you are having difficulty getting the old foam/adhesive out, try using paint thinner on a Q-tip. Simple acetone won't work. good luck
