Light Meter Advice

Hi all.

I'm after a light meter, I love old cameras but don't trust the meters. I'd like one with a digital read out, simple to use, nothing too fancy, just sturdy and accurate. I do street and candid, so wont be taking incredibly accurate readings directly from people's faces etc.

Any help would be great. As for budget, no idea - sorry, that's not much help.

I use a Minolta Autometer IVf. It is easy to use and read and not too expensive. The only downside is that it is a bit bigger than some of the other popular meters such as the Gossen Digisix. But I have never found the Minolta to be too big. It fits easily into a jacket pocket.

I'd recommend looking for a used Sekonic model such as the 308.

I've had a Sekonic 408 myself for many years and like it because it does incident or reflected plus it also has a spotmeter. It's also quite large though (but quite light).

Buy a Weston master 4 or 5 cheap. Non functioning is fine.

for 75/100 it will work for 15 years. No batteries

A Weston Master or EuroMaster is good advice - as is acquiring a Gossen DigiSix.

I have a Gossen Digisix, a fine reliable meter. Fits into a pocket but I carry it using the neck strap. Good for street shooting or being unobtrusive (M4-P).

I'm sold on the Sekonic 308 because it's small enough to carry conveniently. Nothing fancy, just accurate incident, reflected and flash metering (no spot) but in a small package that weighs less than 3 oz.

I've owned fancier meters. But I never seemed to have them in my pocket when I needed them.
