Hey all!
I am a noob to rangefinders, and this is my first post on this forum!
I just purchased a electro-g or gs I'm not sure, it was advertised as a g, from shop goodwill.
So I got it yesterday and looks in pretty decent condition, the shutter works, I ordered a battery from yashica-guy and put that in, but I am not sure if the light meter is working. I push the battery check button and nothing happens, also when I change the aperture it seems like the shutter speed doesn't change and no lights come on.
So I was wondering if there was any way to check all these things before burning a whole role of film and waiting to get them processed to find out it's actually taking pictures?
Thanks
Justin

press the battery check button, see if the green light comes on in the frame counter window. If the battery well cover is not screw in precisely right, you won't get a circuit. in my experience, if the cover is not level, you can still screw it in, but not get a circuit.

I got a battery from yashica-guy it came with the adapter and battery, but the old battery was still in the camera when I got it and it was corroded. I think first I'm going to try to clean the contacts. The battery check doesn't light up and the two exposure lights don't do anything either. So hopefully cleaning will do the job. Thank you for the responses.

Yes, do clean the contacts. Be sure to get all the oxidation out too.

Ok I got the bottom plate off and the white wire was corroded off from the spring on the battery compartment. Now I am having touble getting down to the bottom of the battery compartment to solder the wire back on the spring. Is there an easy way to do this?

I finally got the battery wire soldered back in place and got it back together. Thanks everybody for your help.
On another note: I put the batteries back in it and the over/under lights now work as well as the battery check. But when the under light (when in auto) is on and I push the shutter it stays open as long as I hold the button down. When the light is off it opens and closes fine, but haven't really tested it to make sure all shutter speeds are working. Is this normal or is it a pad issue?

I'm experiencing a similar uncertainty with my shutter speeds.
I dry fired it many times, trying to dicern a changing shutter speed. I think that it does vary, it's just hard to tell the differences in speed until they are pretty slow.
I'm about to run a roll of film through, so I 'll know soon enough.
