Lightmeter KOnica S2 is halfdead:-)

Hello,
My KAS2 is working good but the lightmeter doesn' work. I got a wein cell in it. Wires are solded correctly.

The needle shows to 1.8 and the meter doesen' react of any changing light. When I press the Batterycheck Button the needle goes to 4 and hold this position, when I move the Camera around or press the Button again the needle goes to 1.8.

When I move the needle( really carefully) with a Screwdriver there are no stops, everything works smooth over the whole lengh from 1.8 to 16.

Have you any Idea what's wrong with the meter?

Second Question: The Aperturering has no resting in the single Apertures, is this correct? It's resting in "Auto" and resting really light in 1.8.

Hi Christoph,
Assuming that the battery is still good, and that you have checked for corrosion on the battery case terminals, It may be worth having a look at the wiring that goes up to the CDS cell on the front of the lens assy.
These cameras have two small pins on the shutter that locate the front of the lens housing in the upright position. Its not uncommon to find these pins have been sheared off allowing the housing to rotate and shear off those wire.

Hi Greg,
Battery is new, the battery case terminals are clear and the CDS is wired correctly.

I disassembled the KAS2 to fix the shutter and dissolder the wires that connects the lens to the body. I tried the batterycheck several times again and the needle goes sometimes to 4 and sometimes to 16, but lightmetering via the CDS isn't possible. The wires are soldered correct.

Hi,
This is a fairly common problem in the Konicas. You need to take the battery holder out, take it apart and clean the internal contacts you can't see. 😉 The problem is under the battery check button. When you press it, it breaks the meter circuit and makes the check one. When released it should make the meter one again but this gets corroded and gives you your symptoms.

In Auto the aperture will remain wide open until you start to press the shutter. This should stop the lens down to the aperture set by the meter before firing the shutter. Withourt the meter operating this won't happen. 😉

Hi Kim,
many Thanks for the good tipps. I was very happy about, cause it sounds so logical and easy. I cleaned the contacts and had a look at the meter circuit. I measured the wires with a voltmeter and the right wires got the right voltage. But that seems not to be the right solution. Meanwhile I bought a handheld lightmeter at ebay. I hope I get it in the next day, and thoughts about the KAS2 Meter are history......unfortunately.

The KAS2 Manual at your page is great. I got anotherone, but yours is in PDF and much better formatted. Thanks for the Link.
