Hi all,

I have been using Lightroom for about a year and haven't had any problem until this month.

I save all my photos (film scans or digital) in folders with the camera's name, then in a sub folder with the date e.g Photos>Leica M6>2016.03

For some reason, out of the blue, when I import photos to Lightroom it makes a duplicate in a folder called '2016' in Pictures on my Mac. So, of course when I export to 'Original Folder' the files goes off to '2016' instead of the actual original folder!

This is super frustrating, argh!

Thanks for the help,

Gary

I don't have lightroom in front of me but it sounds as if you've switched lightroom to copy the photos into its' own directories rather than just adding them to the catalog but leaving them where they are. You can change the option (too!) easily at the top of the import dialog.

In the LR import dialog box, top right corner, if you are copying files from a media card such as an SD card, there is a checkbox to make a duplicate / backup, second import folder. Make sure that box is unchecked.

Worked it out thanks to the replies. On the import box I must have accidentally clicked 'Copy as DNG' so I've put it back as 'Add without moving'.

Thanks again,

May I suggest not storing things on the system drive, store you catalogue and physical photos on a separate drive (a fast one), because sometimes **** hits the fan and you need to do a clean install. My Pictures gets a wipe.
