Does anyone know if Adobe ever plans to add more lens profile support for Fuji XF lenses. THe only lens I see supported in LR5 is the 23mm on the X100. I have downloaded all LR updates except the latest that just came out.

I'm only getting to pick up my X-E2 tomorrow. But I have been giving this some thought. I was thinking of capturing a RAF and a JPEG. Then doing a side-by-side comparison. Because the camera adjusts the JPEG in camera, trying to replicate the the JPEG using the RAF file, and in doing so creating a Lens profile.

Does this make sense?

Regards,

Niall

All the ones that need correcting are automatically corrected. You Don't have to think about it

When you take raf + jpg you can switch between both files and see that LR applies slightly different corrections than the camera on the jpg files. Especially distortion correction is a bit stronger on the jpg version.

Yeah it is different. you can always tweak if you need be.

If you find the default LR 5.X corrections for barrel distortion to be in appropriate there is a simple solution for prime lenses.

Use the manual lens distortion slider in the Develop Panel to adjust the distortion level to meet your needs. Examine enough images to insure your distortion setting is optimum. DO this for each lens you feel Adobe mis-corrects.

Save a Develop Preset for each lens you own. After import, use the LR Filter tool to automatically select the images for a given lens. Apply that lens' preset to all the displayed images. Repeat as needed for each lens with a custom distortion Development preset. Unfortunately this is not practical for zoom lenses unless you always use the exact same set of focal lengths.

Another less convenient option exists. Adobe offers a free lens correction application. With this application you can create your own lens correction profiles. I believe this method supports zoom lenses as corrections are estimated based on measurements you make for a set of focal lengths. The last time I investigated this option it seemed Adobe provides detailed instructions on how to build your own lens profiles. But I do not know exactly how user-created custom lens profiles are implemented when manufacturer on-board lens profiles are automatically applied to a lens. I suspect there is a way to apply home-made profiles that override the manufacturer's parameters, but I have no idea how to do this.

Adobe may change their automatic import corrections with new releases (but I doubt they will do this). Fuji may change their on-board distortion parameter value when new lens firmware is released (again doubtful). But you can use Lightroom to quickly apply the first-order barrel/pincushion distortion parameters you prefer.

You could file a bug report or feature request with Adobe. However my opinion is logging a formal request in Adobes system is actually less effective than sacrificing small animals in your basement in an attempt to influence Adobe's plans.

That's a good one! :D

It reminds me of a remark I heard long ago that was aimed at another big software company: "Trying to give advice to XYZ Corp is like trying to teach a pig to sing: It wastes your time, and it annoys the pig."
