Lightroom b&w

I've noticed that converting a color image to b&w inside Lightroom sometimes still leaves a color cast. It becomes more apparent when I compare 2 versions of the same image -- one converted using Nik Software and and one using Lightroom's b&w conversion tools. Usually Nik is neutral, while the Lightroom version has a warmer feel to it.

Can anyone help me understand why this is so? I work on a color calibrated Macbook Pro monitor, so that is not an issue. I've also checked that I don't have any split toning of highlights or shadows turned on.

With the saturation levels set to zero in LR's HSL panel, I have never seen a color cast. I save this as a User Preset. So a single click creates a monochrome, tintless image.

I also use NIK as a LR plug-in. While there are the obvious tonality and other rendering differences between LR and NIK monochrome rendering. I have never observed a warmer look with LR. I never use the NIK tint presets for B&W rendering.

I use Fujifilm raw and LR supports Fujifilm's XTrans B&W Camera Profiles. I have never seen a color cast with any of these Profiles.

I have no idea what would cause any color cast to a LR rendering when saturation levels are set to zero in LR's HSL panel. Have you tried any of the LR supplied B&W presets? The next time you see an image with color cast try one of LR's B&W presets and see if the cast goes away

PS I'm using a calibrated the Apple Thunderbolt display.
