Hi all,
currently use LR2 for all of my files. I have 2 libraries, one for personal and one for business. I organise photos on the HD by month and roll number then import into LR as a folder.
I have a LOT of folders. Can I make a sub file or some sort of deal in Jan to start the new year off fresh? I want to still have everythign in LR but not need to wade through hundreds of folders.
Maybe I set the folders up incorrectly?
thanks

You probably should consider backing up everything and starting fresh. But give some thought beforehand on what would work best.
I have the same issue with the folders on my Web host.

My folder hierarchy works by year:
/my pictures/2009/2009-01-05/
/my pictures/2009/2009-01-09/ etc
/my pictures/2010/2010-01-08/
/my pictures/2010/2010-02-09/
/my pictures/2010/2010-01-05/ etc
with individual folders for each roll or day of digital.
Back it all up, then re-arrange and import into a new catalog. It should import the metadata with the files.

I could be completely wrong, but what I think that physical folders should be separate from LR collections, the folders could be on different disks, organized by any rules, etc
and I can make collections based on different folders, and sub - collections organizing them by subject, dates, key words ... so one image can belong to many or none different collections

So I can import the entire mess of 1 year as a folder with subolders in it....?
In other words the folder will appear in the LR drop down menu as 2010 then inside that drop down will be each individual month as i have them listed in the HD.

You can do the work in lightroom, but more than likely, it will also make the identical changes on your HD.
Check out this help file on Adobe:

Another option would be to move the files on your HD and then in Lightroom, right click on the old folder and find it. Lightroom should automatically locate all of the moved folders. Try it with a small batch to see.
