On the Leica User Forum, I find the Like button a friendly mark of respect. Over there, it’s connected to User Notifications, and each Like identifies the user who left it. This is collegial, personal, and reinforces community.

When RFF adopted Like, I resolved to use it generously. Positive reinforcement!

What perplexes me is that the Like counts on the main page seem to be limited to O and 1, rather than toting up the real number of Likes.

For example, Judge Holden just launched a W/NW Pacific Northwest thread where three of us current/ex-PNW photographers have posted 10-12 images in three posts. I count 11 likes (I “liked” Judge/ Pierre’s work and DWF’s work; somebody not me “liked” mine.)

The thread topic however shows 1 Like, not 11.

This thread is not the only example of the function not working. Farlymac’s Red Oktober 2021 shows 6 responses, 198 views, zero likes. But I see 3 likes, and added another. When I refresh the homepage, the topic still shows 0 likes.

I hope it can be fixed to count as well as a third grader. In the meantime, I will keep clicking Like when it’s the truth.

I’m not hunting Likes myself, but I wonder how anyone who dislikes Like buttons is going to be converted by a tool that can’t tote Like sums for the latest topics.

Thoughts?

I did notice the "Like" button, and do like it. I notice it is not used very much. Maybe people have just not noticed it is there (it was not before, and in discussions about "like" buttons, it was not favored much).
