After reading the awesome sticky on CLAing this camera. I wanted to tackle my camera that had the top plate dented in and also needs a little cleaning up on the inside. However, I can't get by the first step! When trying to remove the film counter it just spins :bang:. And yes, I am turning it to the right. Any tricks I am not aware of? The cameras serial number starts with 65 if it matters.

It's not the film counter dial itself you need to turn, it's the inner part which forms the immediate surround to the shutter button. The film counter dial is just spring-loaded and designed to turn with only some friction. Perhaps you are turning the wrong part then?

Possibly too late now, but the retaining ring around the shutter button has a left-hand thread. If you manage to accidentally tighten it when trying to get it off, it can jam too tightly for the gearing to withstand and strip gears and/or ratchet. ( I did this to mine!).
