dont ask why but ive always been fascinated by little minox cameras ever since I took apart one when I was a wee lad at my fathers expense. Anyway I dont know why but ive always wanted that little minox m3 digital but cant seem to find any worthwhile information or photos that its taken. Anyone want to help out a minox fan?

resolution and absolute image quality is not something I will be worried about if I had one of these to play with. Questions, what about the shutter speed dial and the film advance lever, I asume those are for looks? How about that rollei tlr digital thingy, thats neat too but hard to come by, im more interested in the leica one anyway although I wish more digitals shot in square format.

It's pretty strange because I've been interested too. They look so cute. I bet all kinds of people would be asking what it is when you pull it out to shoot. I see that now there is one that is 4MP, assuming the lens is good, you could make a decent 8x10. It's hard to tell in the pics on ebay what the controls are for. I had a minox 35el back in the 70's and shot alot with it, I could carry it everywhere, much to my friends impatience, I was always stopping to shoot or getting snapshots of them.

I have a 3MP M3 version, and I have to admit it's fun as hell, and takes perfectly acceptable shots.
At my first RFF GTA meeting as everyone was taking out their ubiquitous M3's I said, hey, I got one of those! Their reaction was priceless...
I'm having trouble exporting some shots from Picasa...see how this looks.

yeah, see that exactly what im after there, a camera that is fun as hell and laughs in the face of other people walking around with their little sony point and shoots acting like bit shots (which is when I would pull out my mamiya 6 before and give them a heard attack).

I have been taking photography too seriously lately, I need something to lighten the mood and I think this is it. I really hope I can get a hold of that new m3 one with the lcd in the back!

That is fun. I think I would prefer the one without the lcd. Less obvious!! You might occasionally blow an exposure, but I've done that with film too.

Here's a few more....mine is listed at 3MP 'Interpolated' which is actually 2.1MP. I'm sure the newer ones are much better...but if you do get an older one be sure it has both the 1M and infinity focusing stops. Mine has no preview lcd, but hell, if you're really worried about your shots bring your real M3! My battery has lasted for over 2 years, but I haven't used it much, maybe 150-200 shots.
The digital ones are 'chubby' at the back (as said in a previous post), but still really tiny. I believe the film ones (8mm) are more like the real M3 in all aspects of size (to scale). All the M3 controls are just for show, but the film advance lever (and even the self-timer lever!) has a spring, so you can pretend you're actually winding film.....those Minox guys sure have a sense of humour!
You don't get much for a yard and a half nowadays....and if the new ones are 4 or 5 MP then they'll not just be curiosities but take great shots as well.

the new 5mp one is still just 3 mp then interpolated to 5. It does take sd and all that and ive been looking for one but couldnt find one so I emailed minox and asked them and this is what they said:

Hello Colin,

The newest M3 will be a 5mp version, with a real picture LCD on the back, and a memory card slot. The current 4mp version has internal memory only and no picture LCD. The new camera will be available sometime after the first of the year. I have the current M3 in stock if you wish to order it. Retail price is $225; the flash unit for the camera is an extra purchase for $189; and there is a leather case available for $179.

Sincerely,

I wish they wouldn't do that.. There's no purpose to it other than joining the megapixel race.. And I can only assume that anyone who's going to buy one of these puppies is already so much into photography that they know the value of bloated megapixel counts..

my thoughts exactly, there is no reason for it, and besides if anyone wanted to do that there are programs that can be used after the fact, no beginner to digital photography would buy one of these anyway...
