Anyone from Liverpool (UK)?? We will be there from Nov 10th for one week, and would like to visit some interesting places around. Actually, we are spending the first two days (Sat & Sun) in Manchester...
Wondering if there are some fellow RFFers in the area, and looking for suggestions on what to see, nice pubs - bars, flea markets, bookshops... any recommedation is welcomed.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

For "tourist" things you should see the Royal Liver building (one of Liverpool's most famous landmarks) and the Albert dock area and, of course, take a ferry across the Mersey! Liverpool is rather famous as the home of the Beatles too and I know there are places to see associated with them. I've only been a couple of times, however, so maybe someone more familiar can give you more details.

Nearby is the Wirral, a large promontory between Liverpool and Chester and a very scenic place. Home of some huge chemical and oil-refineries that are quite spectacularly lit at night. It's also not far from Chester and some pretty places on the north Wales coast, depending how far you want to venture.

Enjoy!

If you get bored, Liverpool is close to Wales and, I think, a ferry away from Ireland. You can always take a train to London for the day. I'd need to check, but I'm sure the last train back would leave you plenty of time to catch dinner and a show in the evening.

I'm in Liverpool, but I'll be away in Ireland when you're here - otherwise it might have been nice to say hello.

nice pubs
It depends on your idea of "nice" - to me that means pubs with good beer (which means "real ale" brewed the traditional way). If that's what you like, I can recommend the following...

The Ship & Mitre - Dale Street (down the side of the flyover - best pub in town)
Thomas Rigby's - Dale Street (has good food)
The Baltic Fleet - Wapping (near the Albert Dock)
Dr Duncan's - St John's Lane, near St George's Hall (owned by the local Cains brewery)
The Philharmonic - Hope St (great interior decor too)
The Lion - Moorfields (small place - nice decor)
The Swan - Wood Street (hasn't changed in 30 years)
The Roscoe Head - Roscoe Street (very small place)

That's just a few I can think of right now (after an evening spent visiting several of them 😀)

Hope you have a great time here.

wolves3012 & wgerrard:

Thanks for the tourist info and the nearbyes suggestions. I think the group (we're five) is going to agree to visit the north of Wales; I've been already there twice (more than 8 years ago) and enjoyed there a lot!

We are spending the first weekend in Manchester; any "must to" there??

Oscroft:

I think our idea of "nice pub" is quite the same. Already dropped into my wallet your pub's list; hope to visit (mostly) all of them (and exchange impressions...)
It's a shame not to be able to meet and share a beer; next time perhaps...

Thank you all again!! Gracias!! 😉

Something that might interest you, which I forgot to mention, is that the Baltic Fleet (in Wapping, near the Albert Dock) is also a microbrewery - they brew their own beer, downstairs.

(Hmm, now I'm getting thirsty again 😀)

Cheers,

Sorry, I don't know Manchester well enough to suggest anything. Take an umbrella though, it rains a lot there!
