I have moved from Kiev to Vienna to work a week ago. Still getting settled and looking for the ways to improve my very basic German
Right now there some important things to do such as finding an apartment for rent to bring my family here.. Anyway I'm already in love with this city! Spent weekend exploring the 16th and 18th districts on foot and vising the Montmartre festival in Türkenschanzpark. More looking than photographing, but I've got to return there to take pictures, and btw the area near old Donau seems interesting too. So much to do and so much to see..
Anyway, if there are any RFF members from Vienna I'd like to know how do you learn what interesting is going on? I mean the wien.gv.at website is okay, but it's easy to get lost in the events section of website due to a number of all-year-round exhibitions and so on. How do you learn about the current photographic exhibitions? Are there local classifieds such as craigslist for buying and selling the camera equipment? Any general tips for living in the city?
P.S. It seems that for photo workshops I should keep an eye on the schedule at ersiees-fotoclub.at. And as I know they also have a well-equipped darkroom for the club members, now that is interesting..

I will be going to Vienna in October. Is it easy to find (buy) B&W film there?

Yes, quite so.
If you understand german, I suggest you buy and choose the pick up option here http://www.fotofachversand.at/shop/ . Wonderful little store, cheapest also.
If not, try this store: http://www.blende7.at/
The homepage and the service sucks, but they have the most important things.
There's not really any other option I think.
And, of course, drop me a line if you care to go for a walk in october.

I was in Vienna a few years ago. There's some place there called the Night Market or some such (I forget the spelling in German). My God, you must check out the Indian restaurant there. Delicious! Try it.
Also, check out this park called the Schonbrunn or something. I don't know it's spelling. Nice place for an illicit assignation with a Viennese lover.

Thanks for all who replied! I will get back to those of you who gave contacts or were interested in the meeting a bit later, as right now I'm concerned with some family issues :-( sorry for that.

Naschmarkt? http://www.wienernaschmarkt.eu/
Not that it really means a night market, but there's plenty of nice restaurants and small food stalls in the area and around it.
Just had a very nice japanese dinner in Kuishimbo restaurant (Linke Wienzeile 40). Recommended!

They have a shop or a pickup point in Vienna? I come here quite often in business so this could be useful however from their webpages I only found an address in Amstetten?

I agree. If you like that kind of food, have lentil soup at this place called "Deli" at Naschmarkt. It is just supreme.
Also, on sunday there's a flea market with lots of people moving around there. I used to shoot quite a lot there.

Yes, they do have a pick up point in Vienna I didn't know it was that difficult to find.. you can find the adress here: http://www.photophilia.at/?page_id=16
Make sure to call the man working there, though - he's called Peter Sonnleitner. Just to make sure he'll actually be there. It's not a regular store, meaning very small with only him working there regularly. Anyway, try it, it's a very good shop.
