Loaded film in a rush and...

Came out with 23 empty exposures for a TFCD shoot! Argh! I should load my film more carefully next time.

Thankfully I got 7 shots on another roll, else I would come back empty handed!

Still, I had a lot of fun at the TFCD.

Any tips to prevent this from happening again? Such as leaving the crank up so you can see it turning whenever you advance the film and loading the film more carefully?

Within the last year, I've done this with two different cameras ( and neither were any of my Barnack Leica bottom-loaders!!!)... :bang:

One epsiode was with my Voigtlander Prominet I, the other was with a Kodak Retina II.

In both cases, I began to be concerned when I had shot about 27 or 28 frames on a 24-exposure roll 😕...

In both cases, the leader had slipped-out of the take-up spool.


Since then, with all my 35mm cameras (from 1932 Leica D up through my Pentax SP-500), after attaching the leader to the take-up spool, I gently take up slack in the cassette with the re-wind knob / crank. Then I close the camera back / attach the bottom plate, and watch the rewind knob as I go through the initial wind-on frames, to make sure everything is hooked-up...

In my case, the lost shots from the Prominent were of a Navy buddy who was home on leave with his fiancee...🙁

I've had this happen a fair few times, so now I happily sacrifice a couple of shots to make sure the film is loaded properly.
