Any special technique other than normal? Having trouble loading mine for the first time but I am using a roll of film that was previously part loaded in another camera (a Canon P as it happens). The film won't tighten on the takeup spool as I wind it on. Have inserted the film leader into the gap between the metal blade and the plastic takeup reel and whilst the film winds on it doesn't tighten (so ends up filling up take-up chamber)

Won't have the chance to try a different roll until I get home and I'd rather not sacrifice another film to the loading gods if I turns out I'm doing something fundamentally stupid...

I doubt you are doing anything fundamentally wrong -- but have you tried holding the film tight while you wind on initially, so as to get it to lie tight around the takeup spool?

Have tried two different rolls of fresh film and I can't get them to wind. The problem is I think that the notch on the takeup spool that engages with the sprocket hole is worn down. The takeup spool doesn't put any tension on the film when it winds which means it winds very loosly. Unless I'm doing something fundamentally wrong I can't see a way of getting a roll to load...

If the7s is the same as the p, check and make sure the collar around it shutter release has the little black dot on the collar turned to the A (i think it is) that toothed spool you see with the door open is what advances the film. The take up spool doesn't pull the film. Dave

Hi Dave,

Yes, its lined up with the A, and the film is engaged on the toothed spool correctly. I'm lightly holding it against the teeth to make sure it engages with them. Just in case that's the issue I've also wound it with the back closedand the film just bunches up in the take-up spool chamber. The 7 differs slightly from the P in that there is a shutter lock position between the A and the rewind position.

So much for my koowledge of the 7s. did you check to see if the take up spool really moves with enoudh torque to wind up the film. Sounds like it isn't doing much but I could be full of it😀 In any case sounds like CLA time 🙁 . Dave

It moves with similar torque to the Ps I have but there seems to be backlash on the takeup spool, so with help it will pull the film but won't hold it tight.

I find loading a Canon 7/7s harder than loading my L1. What I do is to force feed the leader into the slot of the take-up spool of my 7/7s, advance a frame, then drop the cartridge into the camera. Wastes a bit more film than I like, but it works.

Thanks for tip, unfortunately made no difference. It just doesn't pull the film tight enough onto the spool, and the spool doesn't have enough resistance to overcome the resistance in the film.
