I have a few cameras with various issues that I would like to have looked at locally. They're not expensive cameras and perhaps all they would need is a CLA and/or some soldering.
I have a couple of prospects I would like to take my cameras in to get an estimate for. They're holed up in small shops that do general repairs but also cameras.
While I realize it's very nice to send out cameras to specialists, have you dealt with local guys? How do you judge their competence? Got any success or horror stories?

If you have a good relationship with a camera store, they'll tell you where they send their stuff for repair. It's generally less hassle for them to pass you straight on than to add a percentage for repair. The same is true for watchmakers and jewellers. Secondary advantages are lower prices and faster turnaround.I have a few cameras with various issues that I would like to have looked at locally.
