LOL, processing film in beer ... :)

I have processed film after marinating myself in beer. It did not work out well for the photos. But it was a hell of a party. 🙂

But seriously (not really) you have given me a great excuse for buying several cases of brewski's..."Honey, honestly I just have a backlog of old 35mm rolls to process". I can see that working (not).

I can recall developing a roll of Panatomic-X in beer long ago. It came out pretty well!
(ahmmm, was it beer in the development tank, D-76 in my stomach? I cannot remember clearly as I had a fuzzy head after the beer I had before developing it) 🙂

During 1991-1994, I would have been geeking out for this... at the height of my experimenting in the darkroom. Cool, but now I`m only interested in drinking it.

If beer is a decent developer, why don't we hear more about how it's a great health drink due to antioxidant properties? The two properties are the same; only a few other, less healthy properties have been keeping health nuts from putting Rodinal in green smoothies.

I've heard of coffee and Tylenol, but ... ... 🙂

Actually, you cannot develop film in coffee, meaning real coffee. Those back-alley formulas specify using instant coffee, because the developing agent is one of the residual chemicals left over from the process of turning coffee into "instant".

having seen this, i wonder why nobody has made disposable packets or cans with pre-mixed chemistry that you can use when you're just too lazy to mix your own 😱😱😱

Well, Ilford did recently release their Simplicity line of developing products:
https://www.ilfordphoto.com/simplicity-starter-pack

Some folks panned it, but I think it has its uses. Perhaps for a beginner who wants to try out DIY development without a lot of initial investment, or for a more experienced photographer who wants to develop a few rolls while out on the road.

well, kids these days are eating detergent so whats stopping them from drinking developing chemistry?

I must be getting old. When we were kids we had to eat tide powder out of the box! 🙂

Seriously, there's some anecdotal chatter on "Another Network" by some who have done B&W developing in plain old beer-beer, not something supposedly formulated to do it.
